Urban Dialogue – Shanghai

The Fourth stage of Farrell’s international travelling architectural exhibition opened in the Bridge 8 Art space transforming the converted heritage building in the Huangpu District of Shanghai into the latest venue which continue a series of discussions on the role of sensitive urban design at a time of global urbanisation at an unprecedented scale.

The gallery layout has been adapted to continue the narrative of the Urban Dialogue theme and recent industry recognition of awards of some of the featured buildings since the launch of the exhibition tour in Hong Kong.

Celebrating Women in Architecture | RIBA International Week

Sarah joins in the Royal Institute of British Architect’s inaugural International Women in Architects 2017. As part of the Royal Institute of Architecture Hong Kong’s Chapter social media campaign (#EthelDay) in honour of Ethel Mary Charles who was the first female to gain membership to the RIBA and the original role model for aspiring female architects at the beginning of the 20th century. SKY YUTAKA have completed the design and production of West Kowloon Cultural District’s first major public exhibition since the public engagement exercise in 2011.

As part of Hong Kong SAR’s 20th Anniversary Celebration event organised by the Development Bureau and Planning Department, the ‘Impressions – Hong Kong’ event focuses on different aspects of Hong Kong’s built environment and ‘Cultural Hong Kong’ is a celebration of creativity and culture in the West Kowloon Cultural District.

The exhibition aims to introduce the vision and principles behind the creation of one of the largest cultural hubs in the world through integration of information displays, video, architectural models, touchscreens and VR in addition to an interactive model. Working closely with the client, SKY YUTAKA developed a bespoke solution for the interactive model from concept, design and fabrication and installation of the interactive model which introduces the key features related to the district planning over various levels.

22nd Incubator for Film & Visual Media in Asia (IFVA) Awards 2017

Sarah will be participating as jury member of the forthcoming Media Art category of the IFVA 2017.
Responding to this year’s theme is about Clash of the Indies, the awards represent the cross-fertilization of creativity, knowledge and experience on media creation among different regions in Asia, this year includes entrants from Turkey, Indonesia, Japan, South Korea and Hong Kong.
Tickets are on sale for the screening which will be after the awards ceremony on 9 March at the Hong Kong Arts Centre.

10X100 exhibition – Hong Kong Edition at Qube, PMQ

The Eight Gates Pavilion and Rain Flower feature in the 10X100 Exhibition – Hong Kong Edition under categories of Theorizing and Mediating. The projects are presented amongst 100 projects which covers architecture over the last ten years and aims to foster a collective dialogue of architecture and urban designers from China and Hong Kong. The exhibition will run until 5 March 2017.

Gift of Light

gift-of-light-1800x1200-c.jpgGift of Light is a lighting design installation that focuses on the visual essence of light, combining simple forms which play with apertures and materials to sculpt the light. The enclosure can be re-configured to adapt to different environments and provide functional and decorative use which encourages interaction between the space, surface and people.  Working with key sponsor Megaman to experiment with a diverse range of fittings and specify specific fixtures.

Launched at the K11 Art Space, Cosco Tower in Sheung Wan and voted winner of both Judges and Popular Vote Prizes, the installation has potential to be developed for future development for furniture and ambient lighting displays.

The work is on exhibit at PMQ, Staunton, 3/F, S312, 35 Aberdeen Street, Central, Hong Kong until January 3rd 2017.

Reflections:

Reflections is an architectural installation consisting of 9m high, over 100m long metallic nylon foil suspended from the ceiling of the public piazza in K11 Hong Kong.

It has computer controlled lighting system and audio sound to create immersive experience for the visitors during the evening. During the daytime, it interacts with sunlight and create array of reflections at the space underneath.

The audio sound is specifically composed for this installation by musician Osamu (www.osamuyano.com) who is currently based in London.

SKY YUTAKA also designed the corresponding A World in a Well Pop-up store by K11 Design Store at the Atrium which surrounds the signature artwork of Song Dong including interactive printing booth and modular display units.

A&D Trophy Awards 2016

Under the Professional Architecture and Landscaping category, SKY YUTAKA have been awarded Best of Category for the Eight Gates Pavilion for The Chinese University of Hong Kong.

In this 13th edition of the regional architecture and design contest, the A&D Trophy Awards recognise excellence in architecture, interior design and product design across Asia-Pacific and beyond.

We would like to thank Stephen Leung and the CUHK team for their support and extend our congratulations to the other award winners and in particular A-JAR, Edmond Wong Studio whose Pop-up theatre was part of the 2015 Bi-City Biennale of Urbanism\Architecture (Hong Kong) received Certificate of Excellence in the ‘Best Pop-Up’ category and past CUHK student Vickie Ka Ki Ma who received joint ‘Best of the Best’ Student trophy.

Audio Visual

In support of the Hong Kong Guide Dogs Association, SKY YUTAKA are exhibiting new work entitled “Audio Visual” for an upcoming mixed media group exhibition on Friday 4th – Sunday 6th November 2016.

Our site specific kinetic sound installation will be part of the 2 day ‘Living Eyelands’ exhibition which addresses issues and themes related to visual impairment and explores the city through our non-visual senses, altering misunderstood perceptions of those living with the disability. Listed in Time Out as a one of the ‘Must-see art exhibitions in Hong Kong’ and Lifestyle Asia’s ‘Top 15 things to do in Hong Kong this November’, the event co-incides with Hong Kong Art Week 2016.

Farrells Travelling Exhibition Shenzhen

Following the Stage One Hong Kong launch, Urban Dialogue successfully opened in Shenzhen for the first stop in the International tour. The exhibition continues the curatorial framework in context of overseas locations and promote dialogue about the role of urban design at a time of global urbanisation with local audiences.
Co-inciding with the 2016 Council for Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat’s Tri-City conference entitled ‘Shaping Dense Vertical Urbanism’, the opening was inaugurated by Hong Kong Directors Stefan Krummeck, Gavin Erasmus, Felix Li together with Excellence Group on 18th October in presence of VIP’s from the design and construction industry and Mainland, Hong Kong and international delegates from the Conference.
Based on the exhibition curatorial framework, SKY YUTAKA conducted curator tours for local Guangdong media and gave insights into the Practice’s early origins and recent works in China. The exhibition is expected to travel to Shanghai in the next stop of the tour next year.
